Has anyone experienced horrible abscesses and cellulitis after your Jpouch was diverted? My daughter went through sheer hell when her pouch failed. She was having multiple fistulae and abscesses for 2 years prior to the failure. Then one day, it finally completely failed. Her bowel movements no longer could be controlled and was oozing out of every fistula and abscess drainage sites. She was in horrible pain. She was already scheduled for diversion but they had to go in and divert her pouch under emergency. Her surgeon told us that it'll be wonderful after that and she'll lead a close to normal life. She was looking so forward to this.
After close to one month stay in the hospital due to complications, she finally was discharged. Her abscess was looking 90% better after some strong IV antibiotics. Within 3 weeks after her discharge, she got another abscess. Her anal area is now red and swollen and she can barely sit down.
They operated again (I &D) and put in more drains and said she'll be better now. Here it is, just about 2 weeks later and the cellulitis/abscess is back.
I don't know what to do or what to think! She is now 85 pounds from all her weight loss. She was 115 before all this started. She is constantly tired and out of breath after walking across a room.
Her quality of life has not improved. Has anyone had similar experience? I'm really desperate for some answers. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
