My daughter (15) starting having 104 fevers the day before Thanksgiving. Took her to the Dr and it was determined she had flu. 4 days later she is still not better, Dr admitted her for severe dehydration. Fever still had not subsided 3 days later, every test under the sun came back negative, so they started her on a Flagyl and fevers stopped!! We never would have guessed it was pouchitis from the beginning! She's on a Flagyl for 14 days...fingers crossed it completely goes away!

104 fever is pretty high for influenza in a teen or adult, but not unheard of. Fevers aren't common with pouchitis, so it was reasonable to assume the flu. Glad they got this figured out, and I hope that she got her flu shot before leaving the hospital. Better late than never! Our household is very vigilant about everyone getting a flu shot (not just those at risk, but everyone). That way, if I get a fever with flu symptoms, we don't assume it is the flu.

Hope the Flagyl takes care of it and everyone is able to enjoy the holidays!

I thought perhaps no flu shot because it seemed they were quick to jump to that conclusion. Yes, not foolproof, that is why everyone she is in contact with should be vaccinated. Plus, if you have the vaccine, typically the flu is mild if you get it. There are new strains every year, but it starts in Asia and they adjust the vaccine accordingly. That is why you need a vaccine every year.
