I have been on Belladonna/Opium suppositories for over 4 years. Its the only thing that helped with painful spasm's and lose of control. Dr said it was due to so many cases of pouchitus over the past 10 or more years had left my pouch very weak. That was causing the horrible pain due to spasm's and then loose control. Well I had to stop working due to the strong reaction to medicine and I have worked since I was 15. But at that point it was the only thing that helped and I could not live that way any longer. Well I heard last Nov. that I was going on Medicare and found out of course they would not cover any of it and its over 1500.00 a month. My doctor said the only thing else to try was valium supp. and up to 8 lomotil a day. I tried in Jan because Medicare would cover it even though it is 2000.00 a month. I gave it till march and was leaking 95% of my day and could not walk long at all due to butt pain for going over 20 times while taking this medication. No I just heard I am in the donut hole 2000.00 adds up fast and now they say I have to pay about 5000.00 out of pocket to get in the castastrophy section.
I sent one appeal it was denied I sent second appeal with letters from each of my doctors saying it all and what I am going through. I called after 2 weeks and was told it was denied again. Have not gotten paper work from latest denial yet but told on phone.
My doctors were furies they never got a denial after writing that is the only thing that helped and that I was told by GI doctor there was nothing else he can give me. I am still dumb from the denial.
Well my question is this is there anyone that is on the Belladonna/Opium supp. I take one every twelve hours and have to lay on left side for one hour after I take it.
I cant believe they are the only 2 medications that could help me. I'm on SS Disability and what I get a month does not even pay for one month. I need some other ideas of medications that I might try that they will cover. Medicare has been so awful I don't know what I am going to do. Any advice or suggestions would be great.
