I talked to my ob during my last visit and we spoke about me being able to have a vaginal delivery, after having my first daughter via c-section before jpouch he said that is ok, but I told him I also have a jpouch which he has known and he said let's just go with c-section. I want to try vaginal delivery to avoid another surgery but these are 2 different reasons I should just go for another c-section just to be cautious. But Im still tempted to try vaginal delivery I'm just confused and want to avoid another surgery. Anyone else had this debate?

So here's the thing: the risks of c-section are now so low that VBAC may be considered a higher risk. But, it is not an always/ never choice. Plus, you need to consider your extensive pelvic surgery, j-pouch.
Some say that the preference to recommend repeat c-section over VBAC is to avoid malpractice litigation. Who knows? You do need to take into consideration the risk to the baby along with your personal risk.

If you had a successful vaginal birth before, it would be an easier choice.
I had a VBAC after a single c-section, and it was OK. That was back in the 80's when it was more popular. In retrospect, I have regrets. I had no notion that colectomy was in my future, even though I had UC for more than a decade before my pregnancies. If I could have a do-over, I'd go with the repeat c-section.
It was 8 years before my j-pouch surgery. My son was an ounce shy of 10 pounds. I had 4th degree lacerations (through the rectum). While the repair healed nicely, I now have pelvic floor weakness and both a cystocele and rectocele. So far I am OK, but I worry about my incontinence as I age. Hopefully, my luck will hold.
It is a very personal decision.

I had my surgery 25 years ago and had a c-section 21 years ago and was glad I did.
I'm having a c section ..... The chances of pouch failure is a risk after vaginal delivery. How has your pregnancy been for you? Did u conceive naturally ? And since you had one before I am curious as to the differences between pregnant without and now with a pouch. I feel like it has to be different but I will never know. I am due with my first in a month. I've had bad pouchitis during the pregnancy and also personal issues with abcesses since the day I found out I was pregnant.
I've had 2 c-sections and have never regretted it. I can only go by my friends experiences of natural birth and what I've learnt from them, and I'm glad I didn't give birth naturally given all the things that can and do happen to complicate matters...and we've got enough complications already. Good luck with everything. If you do have a c-section, ask the doctors about what you can still have control of whilst in the theatre, I.e are there choices you can make beforehand to make you feel more part of the process, for example music, your partner being with you and being able to hold the baby immediately to your chest, etc.
