I just had a"dummie"pill to see if I could do a pillcam. My doc said no as he thinks I have a stricture prepouch. he wants me to have a pouchogram and a pouchoscopy. what are those??? should i be worried?
These are both usually pretty easy procedures. Pouchoscopy is like a miniature colonoscopy, with a tiny scope that examines the inside of the pouch. Most people don't bother with sedation, though some prefer sedation. It just takes a few minutes. A pouchogram is an X-ray study in which the pouch is filled with dye that blocks x-rays, allowing x-ray images to check for leaks, strictures, and pouch capacity.
I'd guess that your yearly scope *is* a pouchoscopy. If you have a pouch, and the scope is entering from the south, your pouch is really the only thing to scope.
I just heard back and got my tests scheduled for this Thursday. They will be doing the pouchogram first and then the pouchoscopy. when I have my yearly scope they do it right in the office, but for this pouchoscopy they are putting me under, so it must be a little different. Hoping the doc finds what he is looking for on Thursday
EUA (examination under anesthesia) is needed if some significant procedure is planned. Since your doctor suspects a pre-pouch stricture, he may be planning a procedure to dilate or release the stricture, which could be very unpleasant while awake. I'd suggest you find out what he's got planned. Even when it's the best path forward it's helpful (IMO) to know the risks.
