I am curious and I'm probably just paranoid here but has there ever been a case of someone losing there jpouch due to really bad hemorrhoids or fissures? I just had my takedown almost a month ago and all is going pretty good except for what a believe is a pretty large hemorrhoid. I am using a bidet and cream but it doesn't want to go away. My surgeons nurse will look at when I go for my post op in 3 weeks. She does not want to prescribe anything other than lidocaine and alternate that with the Prep H if I choose to. Said it could be a small tear that's causing the swelling(fissure), but wont know till they see it. I can feel I with my finger when applying the cream. She said people with pouches they tend to just leave them alone. I know there are procedures and last resort surgery but obviously if you have a pouch you really don't want to be messing around in that area. But has anyone ever lost their pouch due to bad hemorrhoids or fissures? I am just starting to panic, cuz nothing ever goes smooth for me for all that know my history here..

I understand your concern but try your best to remain positive. That is actually funny coming from me...hahaha. Anyway, I have had a few fissures along the way and that never brought up the possibility of losing my pouch. All were successfully treated with either nitroglycerin + lidocaine ointment or nifedipine + lidocaine ointment (as I said in another post). I never had a hemorrhoid so can't comment there. I totally understand your concern and craziness. I can convince myself I have this or that in a matter of minutes sometimes depending on how I am feeling. It is tough when you have pain b/c whatever is happening you know it is not "right". I am currently diverted after 23 pouch years and not sure if I am going to save my pouch or not. If I did have my pouch re-done and had any sort of symptom along the way, I would jump to the worst conclusion also. It is the nature of this whole adventure in my opinion.  I personally don't think you are at risk of losing your pouch over this but I do empathize with how you are feeling!! Sending positive thoughts your way!!

Poncho I am experiencing this issue right now. I have multiple fissures that will not heal with standard treatments of rectiv and nifedipine. I have what feels like an internal skin tag due to this and narrowing of the anal canal. I'm being evaluated over the next month and being seen at Ckevelabd Clunuc. I have had no diagnosis of crohs , yet I have continual issues w a stricture at the anastomoses which is likely the culprit of the fissures. I am hoping I do not lose my pouch but chronic anal pain is no fun. I'll let you know how I make out after further testing.
