I started taking Enteragam about four weeks ago. Took two packets a day for two weeks. It did not seem to make a difference. Doctor increased dosage to four packets a day. I did this for a week and did not experience great improvement. I got fed up and stopped taking the Enteragam without consulting my doctor. I was surprised when symptoms (urgency and abdominal discomfort) increased the day after stopping. Doctor lectured me yesterday and told me to hang with it as he would not expect dramatic improvement like I have experienced in the past with antibiotics. (Also, it seems I have developed some ulcers in the pouch based on recent pouchoscopy that will take a bit longer to heal) I will resume taking four packets a day and will post progress reports here.  Note that I have not had significant issues with pouchitis in the close to 30 years I have had the pouch. In the past, a dose of antibiotics has cleared things up. I think I've been fairly lucky in that respect after reading many of the posts on this site.

I've been on Enteragam twice, the first time I hard time drinking it because the taste was so awful and I discontinued it.  I recently restarted Enteragam because someone suggested eating it with oatmeal, I've been using it for about 10 days and I think it is helping.   The oatmeal really masks the taste but oatmeal twice a day is a little much.

Hi KS1905, I'm glad you found a way to take the Enteragam. I continue to take it with water and am not all that bothered by the taste. Certainly, no worse than metamucil. I did find that stirring briskly with a fork rather than a spoon seems to mix the powder more fully which helps a lot. I also think it is helping so plan on continued use. I will re-evaluate if (when?) I develop another case of pouchitis.

very interested in this, as I had heard they were trying this for pouchitis. but when I asked my GI who is relatively research advanced, she kind of waved me off, questioning the value of food type products. good to hear some positive stories, maybe I will insist we give it a try. surely it must be better than popping antibiotics.

also curious had any of you tried VSL#3? I tried it for a month and saw zero benefit, similar fail with a shorter course of Florastor.
