So back in January I was having a lot of problems. I had a uti, a small ulcer on my pouch, and vaginal abscess that turned out to be a rectovaginal fistula. He put in a seton drain and I have been on the cipro for 2 months. I just can't seem to get rid of this uti. I also get an upset stomach after I eat and severe nausea. Within the last week I have had upper abdominal cramping that hasn't gone away. We have discussed the possibility of having crohns and when I went today we also discussed the possibility of having a prolapsed pouch. Ever since I got the pouch I have had trouble emptying it and most of the time when I think I'm done I'm not. I don't even make it out of the bathroom before I get the urge to go again. It is also painful when I go. My doctor has done a scope and said the pouch looked fine besides the ulcer he found. The CT was also fine. Now he is ordering a voiding proctogram another scope to double check things and look at fistula and see if it is healed yet. And he had also ordered a upper GI and small bowel look though. Not sure that I understand what that last one is exactly but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced problems like this and what your doctors did to fix the issues.

I don't have your problems, but I think what you mention last is an upper GI series and small bowel follow through. This is also sometimes referred to as a barium swallow. Basically, you drink a barium milkshake and they do serial x-rays as the barium moves through your system.

As far as the UTI goes, I would suspect you may just need a different antibiotic.

I am seeing my surgeon in 3 weeks ( was supposed to go this week but referral was delayed) for what my gastro thinks is a prolapsed pouch. I have the same frustrating pouch emptying experiences as you, and can see big hunk of tissue protrude out anus after pushing to empty completely. However, I do not have any of other issues you have, and little to no pain. Good luck with all your tests, and I hope they find something to relieve you of your pain. I expect I will have that test down the road but as long as things are working, kind of, and no pain I suspect we will just talk about it. Good luck!

I have had the same issues. I was always having a uti, never even really knew since it never went away and just became normal, bleeding, pain, never felt empty, I am always in the bathroom for at least 10-20 mins, and back again if I wasn't done. My family has grown to know where to look for me first. I have the extra tissue that protrudes when I push to empty my pouch, but never really thought much of it, the doctors are always going up there with scopes so figured must be normal. I'm not in touch with my family that had the surgery as well. I have a history of chronic pouchitis(sucks!) but they say that has finally gone into remission. That being said, they say that I have ulcers from chron's, but they don't think I truly have chron's. And I have permanent (in my mind, been there for over two years) hemorrhoids and fistulas that pop up. Let me know what your doctor says about the prolapsed pouch. I have never heard of it and my doctor is at the point of, well your symptoms seem to be under control (his words, not mine) so no more tests. Maybe if I come to him with a possible different diagnosis he will try something else. I have done the small bowel series and the scopes, and one MRI. Still having pain, bleeding, cramping, and nausea
