I've been taking VSL #3 for a while now, nearly a year. I honestly can't say that I notice any difference when on it compared to when I wasn't taking it. I am always on Cipro for chronic pouchitis (going on 10 years now) and I know one school of thought is to not take probiotics at the same time as antibiotics, and others say there is still benefit. I used to subscribe to the first school of thought, but then a new Dr I'm seeing said might as well try VSL #3 as see what happens.
Fast forward almost a year - I really can't say that the VSL #3 does anything for me. My scopes still show moderate to severe pouchitis whenever they look. Even with the Cipro or any other antibiotic I may be rotating to at the time (mostly I've given up on others since Cipro is the only one still working well for me). Now my Dr says I might as well stop the VSL #3, especially since I have to pay for it out of pocket and I am not seeing any benefits.
So I got looking into Florastor thinking maybe it might offer a different angle, and then I see Jarrow makes an S. Boulardi that is much cheaper. I figure since VSL #3 offered me no tangible benefits that I can measure, I might as well try something else.
Thoughts?
