I've had my j-pouch for almost 10 years. I've had a good experience with it. Of course I've had to deal with normal stuff like butt burn, but this morning I went to the bathroom and there was quite a bit of blood. I'm completely freaked out by it because that is something I haven't seen in a long time. The only thing different I've done is nutrisystem. But that's been fine, so I don't know if I should be scared or not. Of course I'm making an appointment as soon as possible but until then, I'm gonna be a mess. Can anyone give me some words of wisdom?

If you feel fine otherwise, this is likely just a small blood vessel that burst that will seal itself. Bleeding is usually cuffitis, but would would have pouchitis symptoms. Unless the bleeding is constant, no need to panic. But, if every movement is bloody or if you begin to feel weak or dizzy, you need to go to the ER, just in case it is a hemorrhage. Perhaps you have an ulcer in there that finally eroded deep enough.

ive bled out several times from my jpouch due to dilation pouchoscopys that dilated friable tissue. and yes please listen to Jan regarding feeling weak, dizzy, short of breath. and monitor if you continue to bleed. I don't know anything about it but I wonder if the nutrisystem might have introduced a lot more fiber than youre used to. also out of curiosity you didn't happen to eat twizzlers, or beets or anything else that might appear to be blood but be red coloration in stead? I do that sometimes and freak myself out until I remember what I ate. that can even happen to me with my tomato sauce on pasta.
Thanks goodness for this group. Makes me feel a lot better. I tried to remember everything I ate and there was nothing red, but I've eaten a lot of things that are red and I've never had anything that looked so distinctly like blood. I haven't had any more bleeding so I'm thinking it must be what Jan said. I'm still going to make an appointment with my doc because it's been over a year since I've seen him. Thank you both very much!!
good luck. hopefully its a minor glitch. regarding red coloration foods, sometimes I think it also depends on what else has been consumed. although I'm pretty simple so I'm not sure how or why but sometimes red pasta sauce will color my bowl red other times it wont. cant explain it. just have noted that it happens sometimes and other times not. probably good to see doc on an annual basis anyways so maybe this was your body's reminder? ;-0
Our body's are weird huh? Just when you seem to have control it throws us a curve ball, lol! Anything with tomato is painful. I can tolerate pasta sauce and cooked tomatoes ok, but never raw. I try to stay away from tomatoes all together because I had a really bad reaction from it.
they are but they're the only ones we have! lol
yeah I'm half lucky in that I think I'm mildy allergic to tomatoes but eaten sparingly I seem to be okay.
I stay away from ANYTHING RED but certain aspirin makes me bleed i don't know why anyone else.
Jimmy, aspirin can make anyone bleed. I'd stay away from it.
