Has anyone tried it?  I have been doing it for a week and it seems to be working great!  I don't have active pouchitis but I tend towards multiple trips to the bathroom a day.  Since being vegan for 3 months and gluten free for 3 years, things had been going really well.  I tried this Diatomaceous Earth, (please Google it if interested) and I get the same effect as I do from antibiotics.  Now I am down to 2 or 3 a day.  It's quite amazing.  Plus since I am not going to the bathroom all the time my energy level is up and I feel better than i have since my diagnosis with UC  in 1971 and my j-pouch surgery in 1998.  Let me know and what you think as this a forum and would like a discussion as related to j-pouches.  All information in DE is related to people with colons, of course. Please let me be clear that I am not recommending this product to anyone!

Palm, it really is tricky to figure out if VSL (or any probiotic) is helping. As you point out, it's awfully expensive, so well worth knowing if it's a waste. In my case the strongest evidence was when I reduced the dose and symptoms began to develop. If you're taking if purely for pouchitis prevention (which is what it's best at) you have to honestly assess whether it reduces your frequency of pouchitis. If you've never had pouchitis then IMO it's probably a waste of money.

To answer the questions about where I heard of this, originally from Youtube.  I then did quite a lot of research and people were basically shouting from the rooftops over it so I thought I would give it a try. It is supposed to clean your intestines of all kinds of toxins--heavy metals, bacteria(yay!), viral, fungal etc.  Then the thing that was tricky is that people with colons said it made them, "regular" which was a big risk on my part ,(I thought it would give me diarrhea & I figured it would happen right away) that's why I  did a  one day at a time trial.  Well as I said in my first post is that my pouch responded like it does to antibiotics.   Well, after a week most of the claims have been true, I have increased energy, (could be placebo) and I am only going to the bathroom 2-3 times a day, which is a first in my history of having a j-pouch. (1998)  I am very concerned some people will take this that I am pushing it, but really this is pretty crazy.  I have tried a million things it seems like to avoid antibiotics for years.  Over the years I had gone #2 as many as 50 times a day.  I am also now vegan (4 months)and gluten free (3 years) which had really helped a lot.(My pouch was much better already). The DE was sort of a whim and I am proceeding with extreme caution! But after a week, it's working pretty darn good. It's pretty weird but after 44 years of suffering with bowel misery,(UC diagnosis 1971) I'll take what I can get.  It's crazy, I never thought I would have a remission of any kind, I am enjoying it for now, because as many of us know it doesn't always last. =/  Sorry for rambling off topic but I can't believe I feel as good as I do!

further evidence of what works for some works for some. I'm glad to hear its working for you. placebo or not, it is what it is. If I ever went Vegan I am sure I would die. Veggies and I do not get along, and I say this as the kid who ate his vegetables, but they fly through me now almost in the same form they entered, apologies for the graphics. please keep us apprised of the progress. oh and yeah giving up bread scares the bejesus out of me, its one of life's gifts to me. lol.

palm its not so much that its impossible but statistically less frequent from what ive read. so if indeed you have pouchitis then you do. many docs don't understand pouchitis, sadly that's extremely evident.
