Hi all, before I make a call into my surgeon's office, I thought I'd ask your advice. Starting about two days ago, I noticed a burning sensation near my Barbie butt. It reminded me of the butt burn I used to get with my jpouch, but it's odd because I thought I had closed up shop back there. It is more the outside, so I used some Vaseline and a pantiliner. It's not unbearable, just odd and making me nervous. Since no stool is coming out, what the heck could this be? Has anyone else experienced something similar? TIA.

no idea, but I hope its minor and easily remedied!
Thanks, Deweyj, me too! I also posted under another category and Jan said it could be stimulated nerve endings even a year after my surgery. Hopefully I'll know tomorrow.
Hope all goes well today. I'm having surgery Friday for perm Illeo and the whole bit! I know by the posts I've read you have done well which has been positive for me.
Fosty, good luck! I've never regretted my decision, have probably lived more in the past year than in all four of my jpouch years. I wish the same for you and please feel free to PM me with any questions or if you just want to talk.
This is just a blip for me. Whatever was going on back there swelled and popped last night (messy but pain relieving) and I'm now in my surgeon's waiting room. Hopefully just an abcess that needs antibiotics.
Yep, an abscess. I'm picking up my Cipro now. Thanks, as usual, for the support, guys :-)
ah that was a good call by Scott of possible abscess. I have fortunately never contended with one and so forget the signs. glad you are on the mend.
good luck Fosty!
That's great a quick fix! Thanks so much I'm hoping for an easy surgery but prepared for either way Just want to get rid of this situation of feeling lousy most of the time Had pouch for 12 yrs but not good for past year so will welcome the freedom to travel etc
So sorry your Barbie butt hit a glitch and I'm glad you found a fast, relatively easy fix. Fosty - I will be thinking of you as you revert and hope it goes as easily as possible. I tend to think things will be awful, and that way, I'm pleasantly surprised if they are easier. This is after years of "oh, it won't be too bad" and then it was bad I just try to be realistic and I find procedures and ups and downs are a bit easier to take from an emotional standpoint. Let us know when you are up to it how you feel about going back. I have considered it many times...not there yet, but I will never rule it out. My pouch causes me a lot of restriction in terms of needing private RR near and going every 2 to 3 hours unless I stop eating for awhile. And, pain (manageable so far) and gas and discomfort all the time. It's easier since I quit working, but I do make plans around getting home to my RR. I have been criticized for that on here, but it doesn't bother me. I understand the having loud, explosive pooping for some in public restrooms is not a problem - for me it is....and I've learned we are all different in terms of what we want to deal with publicly about the pouch. I remember when I had the bag, I did not have to worry about the RR thing. It was easy to dump the bag and I had some kind of drops and stuff to deal with the smell. I see it as an alternative if I live a long time. Please be well and let us know how you do and maybe give tips as to how you cope with the bag. I think your positive attitude is going to take you a long way - as it did the original poster! You both inspire me! Thanks!

did the doc have any explanation as to why you developed the abscess? is it an infection and is so where? so sorry you had to go through this. i've gotten off easier with the phantom reactions--no pain, just strange feeling!! be well, jlh
JLH, I asked him if I did anything wrong, didn't clean well enough, etc....he said no, that there could be a tiny opening in the rectal incision and it could fester for awhile. He cultured it and ordered Cipro. It's really ok, it was one day of pain and at least I know why. I get only the minutest amount of phantom feelings and rarely at that, if I'm really full! Aside from this abscess, I've never had pain. What a blessing!
