Hi all,

I just wanted to say what a great forum this is. Although I am a new member I have read many posts for advice which have helped put my mind at rest.

As you can see from my post title I have recently had my j pouch created and my rectum removed (Surgery on the 12/12/2015). I managed to get the operation done by a very highly respected surgeon (Professor Sagar, Leeds, England). He also performed the same procedure on Darren Fletcher (Ex Manchester United Football Player). So I can't complain about the care I received and I am positive the pouch has been created in the best manor possible

The reason I am posting is due to a slight complication after the operation, i had a CT scan and it showed I had a 5cm collection of fluid i believe in the douglas pouch, which on day 6 gave me a fever of 100 degrees and pain in my abdomen. I was given a 2 week course of antibiotics and after spending another 5 days in hospital i was released, as my CRP levels had started to come down. I recently went back into hospital to have another CT scan as the fever still hadn't totally gone after another 7 days of antibiotics, the scan still showed the fluid still present. However over the past 2 days the fever has subsided and my CRP has dropped to near normal levels and I genuinely feel better in my self. The surgeon did mention about draining the fluid, but since I am feeling better and the infection seems to have gone, it doesn't seem necessary. I asked him why the fluid was in there and his response was that after removing the rectum there is always fluid which is left in its place and can sometimes become infected. My question is, has anyone had a similar issue? Will the fluid that is still in my body (which now doesn't seem to be giving me any issue) be just broken down by my body before the final surgery?

Also has anyone got any tips in preparation for takedown? I am busy doing kegal exercises as I type .

Thanks For Reading

Anthony
