just today I finished  500 c 500 f a day  250 each time. made me achy and very tired  just did not feel wee. hope I feel better tomorrow. for now no more of that nasty stuff. I was on about 3 weeks. I don't know that I could have tolerated it much longer. down to  1 or 2 pain pills a day we shall see what happens next

I wonder if your dosage is too low? I take 500mg of Flagyl 2x a day.

I know of others who combine Cipro but for whatever reason I didn't seem to tolerate Cipro when I tried it. so Flagyl or more accurately Metronidazole it is for me.

I take Cipro 500 and Flagyl 250 once daily. I'm fine at that dose, any lower and I have trouble.

400mg metronidazole daily isn't too bad. The usual dosage for short term use is 250-500mg 3 times a day. For long term use, the lowest dosage you can get by on is the right dose. This is to reduce side effects. I'm currently taking 500mg daily, but rotate off of it after 10-14 days to another antibiotic or a drug "holiday."

For Cipro I am typically 500mg a day (250mg morning and another 250mg evening). I have in some cases got by with a 250mg total in a day, but usually I need to go back to 500mg / day. When I flare, I have to up it to 750mg / day and worst case 1000mg / day but just for a few days and then I can get back down to 500mg / day Cipro for my maintenance amount.

For Flagy, I was on 250 mg morning and night the last time I was on it, but eventually the Flagy stopped working for me and I tried other antibiotics. One by one I've been losing those over the years too (others have also stopped working for me), and I am about to try Flagy again just as a means to rotate out from Cipro at least part time. Otherwise I am on Cipro continuously and have been for about 10 years now....  

I did not know that one could be one those for such a long time. I am finally finished with mine-but still need a pain pill(at least one) a day sometimes to for the pain/pressure I still feel

FWIW, I experimented with once daily vs. twice daily dosing of Cipro/Flagyl, and once daily worked exactly as well for me (and is much more convenient).

That's interesting, and it sure would be more convenient. I've always been told to space out the Flagyl so as to keep the levels more constant during the day. Might be worth trying a once a day dosage and see how it goes.

At higher doses you *might* get more side effects with a once daily dose than splitting the dose into two half-doses. My doses are low enough that it just hasn't been an issue, as far as I can tell.

I've been on 500 mg / day of both Cipro and Flagyl for over a decade. At this dose, the pouchitis is stable but always active. When I lower the dose I tend to flare. I take the pills just once a day - in the morning - which allows me to have a drink or two in the evening if I desire, without any nausea from the Flagyl.

whoa youre able to drink one let alone two on that dose! amazing.

my first experience with I think a week's worth of Flagyl after my first pouchitis led to the worst and most exhaustive vomiting experience of my life by sipping a beer the night I finished my dosing. I remember that so vividly that the prospect of even a hint of alcohol scares the bejesus out of me.

interesting and glad to hear youre able to enjoy, not to mention avoiding the seemingly inevitable nausea. do you avoid the metallic taste buildup too?

I have no alcohol/Flagyl side effect either. Wine, beer, even liquor. I get the metalic taste, but it does not cause me big problems. Just the funky taste.
