Hey all,

Nice to find a forum like this. Greetings and good wishes to all.

I am a 34 year-old physician ("ER doctor") with UC. Diagnosed 7 years ago first with disease extending to the hepatic flexure, but rapidly responding to oral ASA and mesalamine per rectum. I am very largely "disease free" for most of my days; only noting a touch of blood say, once every two months or so, and a modest to moderate amount of mucus. I have never needed steroids, azathioprine, mercaptopurine, or any of the biologics... yet. Alcohol very clearly exacerbates the symptoms (though only after a 2-3 day time lag; took me forever to figure that out), so I avoid it for the most part. My first "screening" colonoscopy (February) went well; only very modest left-sided inflammation and no abnormal structures. Going for my second "scope" next Feb (2016).

Anyways; I'm here to be a friend to my fellow IBD folks and to share my knowledge and experience. I'm also open to any advice/experience, as I know that there is a real and quantifiable possibility that I will be in need of a J-pouch at some future point, and am trying to "plan ahead" the best that I can. I have some keen insight and am very well-read on the literature about chemoprevention of colorectal cancer in the setting of IBD.

Thanks in advance, and best wishes to all.

Welcome, welcome, welcome, RustedFox! Boy oh boy, we definitely could use as many folks as we can get with medical knowledge and experience. Any time you have to spare is very appreciated. Being a patient and a medical professional gives you a unique position to "understand both sides of the stethoscope."

So, again, welcome to our forums!
