I had quite a few flare ups so far but something feels different this time. With previous flare ups after 2 days of cipro I could afford to eat almost anything and the irritation was strickly in the lover part, in the part where pouch was conected to rectum. I would take a ten days cycle to get me back to normal. This time It's my third week on cipro and the result is not nearly as it used to be. I have a sensation like my stomach, small intestine and pouch and rectum are all affected and extremely sensitive. If I eat anything that is not dietary I feel the food as it's passing through and it comes out in a form of diarrhea. I feel as though my whole digestive sistem is not functioning as before. Any thoughts?

Sounds like my symptoms after a couple of decades with my j-pouch. Turns out my pouchitis became chronic and I need antibiotics mostly all the time. I now alternate Cipro and Flagyl and try to stay off as much as I can, but it seldom is more than a week or so. Since Cipro is not doing it for you, you probably need something different like Flagyl.

Flagyl makes me so nauseous I can not imagine using it. I couldn't put anything in my mouth when I was on it. Plus I have some neurological issues and antibiotics have really bad effect on my sight and speech... Ayayay, I don't like this at all
Jan, I think I read somewhere you had spinal stenosis. I do too.How does it manifest in your case?
- Mine is c-spine. Causes tingling and numbness in my hands if I look up more than 15 seconds or so. I think I have some lower lumbar stenosis too (but haven't had the MRI to diagnose). This is more osteoarthritis, but my rheumatologist tells me that having inflammatory arthritis can cause accelerated osteoarthritis. Lucky me!

Jan you have been such a big help to me..i am going to pick up rx for a better pain pill tomorrow. I am taking both flagyl and cipro twice a day. I have the anti nausea pills. so far have not had to use them but don't feel too much better. my problem began with some red ulcer like dots which the doc thought was shingles. after some surgery and ct they discovered pouchitis. but after I play a sport(tennis or pickleball) the dots are back
