Ever since surgeries in 2013 I've had mild coccyx pain which I assumed was due to losing weight, especially in the bum... Now being pregnant it is much worse. It has a constant ache that gets worse the more I sit and the action of standing up can very painful too. Usually by the end of the day I have recline/lie down to take pressure off of it.

Anyone else dealt with this successfully? I just got a butt pillow with a cutout at the base of the spine I'm hoping will help, but I am open to other recommendations

I have some of those "Tush Cushes." I suffered with coccyx pain for years and assumed it was due to my presacral abscess that I had post op. Fast forward a decade and other joint pains, and sacroiliac pain in particular sent me to the rheumatologist, who diagnosed enteropathic arthritis. Fortunately, this was long after my childbearing years.

Hopefully, this is not your scenario. Could just be pain from the ligaments loosening up and stretching in response to the pregnancy. We get a lot of scar tissue in there from our surgery. Being pregnant, they don't want to do x-rays unless absolutely necessary. Plus, most of the pain meds you'd take are probably on your no list. I always found a heating pad helpful, along with getting up and moving around a lot.

3 things help me...all mechanical.

1 I roll around on these oversized silicon tennis balls (about twice the size, they are sold in pairs and come with a bookelet to explain how to use them)...I put them under the spot that hurts and then push against them while laying on my yoga mat. Constant pushing and little pushes over time ened up cracking something down there back in and the pain finally evaporated on the spot (I just assumed that something got thrown out during one of my surgeries)...

2. That huge pilates ball...I love it for back pain...stretchs, abs, rolling, butt lifts...They all give me relief in one way or another

3. Pilates/yoga moves (I have never taken classes, I just look at the tutorials on youtube) and then stetch, pull, push, hang...it all relieves diffent pains

and finally I see an ethiopath (sort of like a chiropractor) who does the rest.

Good luck with the pregnancy...hope that all goes well

Hi

I am 8 months post takedown and I have a similar pain since takedown. How did you finally get over it? And how many months post takedown does it get better?

Thanks

S

Hi Sneha,

I still have pain unfortunately. It's not as bad as it was during pregnancy but depending on the day it can still be an issue. Either too little or too much activity can seem to make it worse. Sitting a lot can be problematic. I think it has improved overall over time - I'm 5 years post-takedown and it doesn't usually interfere with normal happy life.

Sharon, what is the name of the silicone ball you use? I use a foam roller in the area but never anything that targeted in that area.
