I have had my pouch since 2003. Cipro, Flagyl, tincture of op, and belladonna and op suppository keep me in check.  The single biggest thing I have found for me (besides the meds) is water. I drink a minimum of 2 quarts a day.  I am up 2- 3 times a night min.  Keep a bottle on my nightstand and drink before heading to the bathroom. First thing in the AM I drink a glassful on the way to the bathroom.  I spend a lot of my work day driving and keep a gallon in my vehicle to fill up my bottle. I drink weak tea every now and then. Caffeine has a definite bad effect on me. I am looking for others observations on hydration?

I drink plenty of water, Mike, but I think you probably drink more. Everybody absorbs water a bit differently with a J-pouch. Some folks do fine with moderate amounts of water, and at the other extreme some need plenty of rehydration solution every day. Some folks have to sip and other can guzzle it down. The most reliable indicator of good hydration is light-colored urine. Follks who defecate every time they pee may have more trouble observing their urine. FWIW, I've found that a full bladder sometimes feels like I have a full pouch, too, but once I've peed the pouch sensations often go away for quite a while. It's also a good chance to practice very valuable muscle control.
