Why?

Why embarassed? Hubby comments on it occasionally only because I no longer even notice it...says that he can hear it over the tv (he wears hearing aids too!)...so what?

It is my digestive system...that it is how it works...noisily...at least it works!

My students comment every now and again (Madame, are you hungry?), I laugh.

Some people fart and some burp and some rumble...I rumble...a darn site better than some of the farts I have heard in public!

Own it! It is yours! (as long as you are not sick then enjoy the noise)

I found some triggers for me following a FODMAP elimination diet. Like apples curse me with awful bloating and gas; peaches too. Too much gluten/wheat does as well as the galactan group of beans (as many are affected by them). I've been lactose intolerant since at least age 11.

You could try that. Read through it and see if it's something you'd find meaningful to try.

The noises we make would actually be funny if they weren't so embarrassing!  To me, one of the best feelings in the world is the explosive-like expulsion of that gas!  I found that coughing hard while sitting on the toilet helps me empty my J-pouch.....gas and all!  I feel as though gas is a duct cleaner!  The greater the explosion, the better the results!  When my belly is making noise, people ask me if I'm hungry!  Sometimes it is easier to just say, "Yes!" rather than explain!

It's loud because it's now rolling around in a cavern.  Just like shouting into a cave vs. A skinny pipe.... there's going to be a loud echo in a cave.

I can relate to what you are going through.  I have posted on this board in the past about this.

It is very embarrassing.  Especially when it happens around other people.  I am at work as I type this hearing my intestine make noises.   I cant not stand this.  Its hard to concentrate at work when this is happening.  I am able to play my radio at work to try and drown out the noise so my co worker who sits next to me does not hear it.   Because of this problems, I am always made to watch what I eat, always self conscious about this.  I hear the noises at night sometimes which makes it hard to sleep.

My digestive system makes all kinds of noises also.  I use a lot of Gas X and I think ginger capsules also help. At night I sleep with a white noise machine and it helps a lot with eliminating noise especially all the rumbling.  I didn't noticed how much until I slept without it one night at my daughters and listened to all the rumbling noises all night long.

Agree and empathize with you. The rumbling situations in social situations suck, especially on the dating scene.

I'm trying a couple different things at different times to reduce it, because I know this isn't going away completely. Just attempting to experiment at this time.

  • OTC gas-reducing medication right before I eat
  • Lomotil before or after I eat to slow down the GI system
  • Significantly more water after I eat

I just had surgery in October to remove adhesions near my stoma site and that has reduced the noises somewhat.
