Has anyone had botox injections for a rectal fissure (with J-pouch) and if you have did you have problems with incontinence afterwards. I am waiting for a pharmacy to call me regarding shipping the botox to my dr and I'm getting a little nervous because I have a trip planned to Las Vegas the 20th and I am wondering if I should just postpone the injections until after I get back from my trip. Thanks!

I dont understand what is that procedure and what is that for?
Yes, I would postpone it until you return, as it may cause incontinence.
Isbella, Botox is used for anal fisures as a chemical sphincterotomy. Basically, it paralyzes the muscle, and that prevents the spasms that reduce blood flow and prevent healing.
The good news is that the effects wear off after about 3 months and you don't have the risks of surgery.

Hi Tammy,
I cannot answer your question, but I can tell you I am looking into this procedure as well. I have several chronic and very painful anal fissures, but mine are a result of a recurring stricture at the anastomosis. Not sure if this is what is causing your issues as well? My jpouch works pretty good thee days, aside from this awful recurring issue. Very, very painful at times.
I assume you have tried all the other remedies as well like nifedipine, rectiv, lidocaine, calmoseptine, sitz baths? Can you please post as to how your experience goes with the botox after you have it. I cannot seem to find many others on this forum who have this recurring issue. Best of luck to you and I hope you get some pain relief and I hope you enjoy your trip. I am scheduled for one next week also, however the fissures give me added stress when traveling and I am hoping I can manage with them when away.
I have an appt scheduled on the 31st, I'll let you know.
Update - I had the Botox injections around 3 weeks ago and as of today I believe they have helped, barely have had any fissure pain and haven't had any leakage. The injections themselves were not as painful as I thought, 3 quick little stings and done. Hopefully I will not have any more problems with the fissure.
Sounds good. Fingers crossed that this holds up.
