hi this is my first time on the site. I read through a lot of postings and this seems to be a great site. I had a J Pouch done at CC FL great surgeon. However I now through my fifth surgery. The first three take down - reconstruction and hook up back in early 2013. Since I disconnected my pouch temporary to allow ulcers along the staple to heal and again hooked back up. I'm a bleeder and have rectal bleeding since the J Pouch. Blood transfusions and iron infusions quite often. My mind feels good but my body is beat up. Now my surgeon who I respect very well recommends pouch Advacement due to chronic cuffitis I'm extremely nervous and concerned. I have tried everything with injection and medicines. Has anyone gone through the pouch advancement and can you please advice.

I had it 15 years ago. I had ulcers at the same site. Although the cuff is gone I still suffer from pouchitis, inflammation, it never solved that problem. I hope you have more success.

PDS, pouch advancement can be very effective in the right hands. It's normally done with a mucosectomy. It's a very delicate, hand-sewn surgery - if I needed it I think I'd get it done in Cleveland, or at least interrogate my surgeon about how many he has performed, how successful they have been, where he learned the procedure, and what rate of incontinence he's had. This is much more specialized than creating a stapled J-pouch.
Hi Scott - I really appreciate your input. Dr Weiss is my surgeon and going for a consult about the procedure early July. He's already adviced me of the difficulty to this procedure. There appears to be very little information on hand sewn procedures other than some studies performed. I feel I'm in good hands and he's performed well to date. My body for one reason or another is struggling to adapt to the J Pouch. Thanks
I do not leak. Only at night IF I have pouchitis.
