I'm having my operation in three parts, the first part having already been done.

In the second stage of my operation, the remaining part of my colon will be removed and the j pouch will be constructed and connected to my back passage.6-8 weeks later my loop ileostomy will be closed and my j pouch will be fully functioning.

I'm hoping to get some feedback  on the kinds of issues I will experience after my colectomy. Will having a j pouch feel any different to having a colon? Will I experience pain in my back passage? Also what will the urgency be like?

I've been hearing about pelvic floor muscle exercises, however as a male I can't find any information online on how to do them. It's my understanding that they help with the potential incontinence that I might experience after surgery and also the potential loss of sexual function.

I  new to this site and I want to prepare myself as best as possible so that I can recover quickly. I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice to prepare.

Thanks

I had mine done in 2 steps, but I've never had a different "feeling" inside.  I can't tell the colon is missing, and I can't tell there's a j-pouch in there......it all feels the same as before.  I had my ileo reversal last Friday, and so far it has all worked very well with no pain, no urgency, and no issues with control.  During the whole process, the ostomy bag was the worst part for me.  I was happy to get rid of it.

Yea, that's different......you no longer have a rectum full of dehydrated and compacted stool that you push out as turds.  You have a pouch that's about 2/3rds the size of a rectum, and it's full of liquid, or a thick-ish liquid.  I've just been relaxing and letting it run out.  A little push after that yields a poot or two and maybe a tad more liquid and that's it.  This happens every 4-6 hrs for me right now, hopefully I can extend that time out some more over time, but pooping 6x/day with no pain and no medications is so much better than pooping 12x/day with pain and expensive medications.
