Anyone else here have jpouch issues and has been disconnected back to a loop ileostomy ? I had a leak in the tip of my jpouch and had to go back to a loop due to infection in spine from leak. My surgeon at Cleveland Clinic said as long as I'm not having any issues I can stay as is as long as possible. I just get concerned cuz its a loop and there is still chance of stool bypassing the loop and getting into the pouch. I expel mucous every other day or so and sometimes appears to be stool as well?? My surgeon or Shen dont seem very concerned about that happening but how could it not? I have had it since 14 months now. There is a 99% chance that i do not want a pouch redo. I had so many complications and infections and almost died, I dont want to put my body and mind through all that again. Not to mention my job and my 2 young daughters. I hate my ostomy with great passion but its almost worth it to keep than go through what i did the first time. I have consult with Remzi in July to hear his thoughts.

Anyone else here have the jpouch and loop ileostomy and has kept it long term.

My daughter has had her diverting loop ileostomy for 3 1/2 years. She has had one complication after another so she never had the surgery for her jpouch to be re-connected. Occasionally if her output is really liquidy and her bag gets really full she gets stool thru the lower loop and it comes out the anus. The surgeon never seemed concerned, tho it's been a long time since she mentioned it. She works really hard at loving her ostomy, as it has given her so much freedom to move on with life and accomplish so much (in spite of all the surgical complications). if you don't mind me asking, why do you hate your ostomy so much?
