I have had my take down surgery 5 years ago.  I was on lomotil and stopped taking it because it was starting to bloat me and sometimes having a little constipation.  I now have a question  Since I have stopped about 6 months ago  I am using the bathroom many times a day.  I can't seem to gain a pound but than again while I was on lomotil I still didn't gain weight. I was wondering if I go back on lomotil even though I didn't gain weight would I be able to retain vitamins from what I eat.  I feel that maybe not being on lomotil I am not getting any nutrition because I am having moor bathroom issues.  I have tried Metamucil and Fibercon and that really bloats me.  I do take vitamins and a antibiotic every day for pouchitis and a gas pill.  I am tolerating a little moor foods than I was before.  Does anyone have any thoughts on this.  Thanks Grace

Whether it's Imodium or Lomotil, I think the key is moderation. Try a little bit, and try it less frequently at first. If that's not enough, add a little bit more. I wouldn't recommed targeting fewer than 7-9 BMs, even though you'd probably prefer 4-6. You should try very hard to not overdo it, IMO. I still use Lomotil 12 years out, but only at bedtime (1 tablet) and before outings that would make a bathroom trip a real nuisance (e.g. boating). I'm lucky enough that this lets me sleep through almost every night, unless pouchitis is being troublesome.

Yes Scott I did that the other night before I went to bed I still had to get up twice but it was better than getting up a few times.  I took a Imodium this morning it seemed to help a bit when I got home I started having issues again so I took another Imodium and had lunch  Now I will see what happens when I have dinner.  by not taking anything I was in the bathroom at least 20 + times a day.  So when ever I would eat anything I was in the bathroom  half hour after.  I even tried putting 1/2 tsp of Metamucil in my protein drink after I ate oatmeal with 1/2 bannana this morning  maybe I didn't put enough that is when I took and Imodium  Thanks for input I appreciate everyone's advice.

I take my 2 imodiums and 1 lomotil at the same time when i first wake up in the morning. I've been doing this since 2001 when I had my takedown surgery. Luckily this has always worked for me. I still usually go about 3 to 4 times a day. As far as the weight gain, I too am very thin. I'm 112 lbs and 5'7. I have always been very thin and I have an identical twin sister who is the exact same size as me with no health problems. People always suggest that I'm small because of my health. I hope this helps!
