i had two c-sections and had the same discomfort afterwards. I had an uterine ablation and had minimal gastro discomfort. 

I've had quite a few pouch related and non pouch related surgeries...most went fine without having any adverse effect on the pouch. I get ileus (the intestine falls asleep and doesn't wake up for a few days causing nausea, vomitting, horrible cramping etc) after pouch related surgeries other than when it is done through laporoscopy (so far that is).

I have more of a problem with general anesthetic that lasts over 4 hours than for shorter surgeries.

Foot surgery, no pouch issues.  Wisdom teeth removal caused no issue, either. 

C-section and then ovarian cyst surgery, both times took a couple days to get the pouch going again. 

It's more likely to have gastro issues when they're messing around in your abdomen vs say, a foot surgery, however, opiate pain meds can slow things down, too.  Bowels hate to be touched, and can get sluggish after those kinds of surgery.  And like Sharon said, general anesthesia is also often worse on them, too.

I like the Jewish Proverb - in amongst the seriousness of it all though I did have a smile as he has also had both his rotator cuffs done also - but with lots of effort, his shoulders are still quite strong ( and mine and the family's are here to hold him up when needed - he's 72 this year

We met a 6 month old baby many years ago who had had a major operation on her bowel at birth and who had a bag put on then - her dear Mum ( whose Dad had just had a major heart attack and was in ICU with my husband  joked with us that she never had to change nappies - we often speak of those we have met through having his J pouch and how each deals with their lot - that proverb says it all and I shall quote it in the future . . . my love and best wishes to you all (((xoxox)))
