Hello! This is my first time posting. Any help is greatly appreciated!! I developed a blockage while on vacation (still on vacation) and went to the ER. They did a CT and immediately put an NG tube in. About 12-15 hrs later, I had a BM so they took it out. I still stayed overnight and they released me the following morning.

Since leaving the hospital, my stomach is extremely distended and very crampy. It feels similar to the feeling you get after laparoscopic surgeries. Like there are gas bubbles trying to get out. I also look about 5 months pregnant. My stomach is huge! I've been having BMs, but nothing is helping. Has this happened to anyone? Should I be concerned? Should I go back? Thank you for your help!!

(Had my jpouch reversal surgery Oct 7 2014 and this is my first blockage experience)

Unless you are passing gas, you may still be obstructed. Hold all solid food. And yes, I would at least call back and see if they would like you to come in. If things are moving, you should not be grossly distended. Some distention could be expected while the trapped gas works its way out, but this sounds like it developed after your release.

if you are having a lot of pain and/or vomiting, definitely go back.

Thank you so much for your reply! I plan to call the Dr and see if I can at least get some pain meds to manage the pain. I felt this way when they did the abdominal X-ray but I really wanted to get released (my husband and I are in maui for vacation)...once I got home I realized how uncomfortable I was and I feel like it's getting worse. Not sure if I'm still obstructed. No vomiting or nausea, just really uncomfortable gas pain and cramps.

The problem with pain meds is that they slow the gut, prolonging the time it takes for this gas to work its way through. So, it can be counterproductive. Gas pain can be extremely painful, I know. Try to move around as much as possible and drink clear liquids. Tea is good so is grape juice. Avoid apple juice, as it can contribute more gas.

One you start farting, you will feel so much better!

Sorry your vacation is being hijacked!

I don't know the yoga name as well as how I get the gas out.  Think of gravity so if you position your head lower than your abdomen the gas will rise up and you will fart.  Get on all fours, knees and hands then reach as far as you can in a stretch so your head will be on the floor and your butt will be up.  You can also try laying face down on the floor to push the gas from your abdomen out - this one hurts more than the other way.  I still put my arm on my abdomen and apply pressure below my belly button when on the toilet and needing to pass gas.

I hope something works and you can get back to your beautiful vacation.
