They will use this information to send out fishing emails to get people to click on links and download Trojan malware into their computers. With all the personal data the hackers got they can make these emails look very realistic and convincing.
Reports are that they didn't encrypt the Social Security Numbers, which makes me upset as a former customer of Blue Cross. It seems like a simple security step since Social Security numbers are so important.
Those of us on Medicare know first hand how little our federal govt. cares about our security. Our Medicare membership number is printed in bold on our Medicare card and.........it is exactly the same as our social security number plus a couple of letters! So much for feeling safe!
