I am not knew to the loop iliostomy, this is my second one since 2012. So my question is a concern but I do know it is somewhat normal but not sure about the following...

I am 2 weeks post op and as usual and with what I experienced with my first loop I have been passing mucous from the bottom. Sometimes it looked a little more like stool color but still watery. BUT today from morning until now I just had my 6 bout of diareah from down there. I mean "oh my goodness I need to run to the bathroom diareah and lots of it at a time. Output has slowed down just a bit in my bag since this started but still having watery output. My bottom is not getting the rest my surgeon wanted, that is for sure. It seems a little out of the normal and most of all a lot for having a diverted iliostomy.
Like I said I know a little is the normal because it's a loop but... ? Anyone experience this and should I be bringing this up to my surgeon sooner than my scheduled appointment which is in a week?

The thing with a loop ileostomy is that the stool takes the path of least resistance.

If you have a lot of stool bypassing the stoma, it can be for a number of reasons.

You can have output so high your stoma can't accommodate it. You can try Imodium or lomotil to slow things down. Maybe you have an infection. If you suspect that is the case, notify your surgeon.

Has your stoma changed? Is it swollen or retracted, or become lopsided? If so, call your surgeon or stoma nurse.

Thanks Jan. Going to bring all that up to him this week at my appointment. Definitely lop sided and to me it seems to be to shallow or in my stomach. A lot if pain around the stoma and it bleeds when I cleaned it up and change my bag. I can't believe the amount of times I'm using the restroom. 7 times yesterday and I'm at 4 times today so far.
