Hey everyone! I'm new to the site, but I had my Total Colectomy almost 5 years ago, this September, and my takedown surgery in March 2010.

I'm 28 (29 next month) and my husband and I are going to start to TTC this month. I'm really worried about being able to find a doctor, as my surgery took place in Ohio and I'm now in Indiana. Do I even need a high risk doctor? I really want to be able to find someone amazing, but worried that they won't have enough experience or knowledge regarding my altered anatomy.

Anyone else been through a similar situation or can point me to someone great in Indianapolis? Big Grin

I started with high risk in my area, but I wasn't "High Risk" enough for them to be interested in me, so I left.

I did not have a doctor who had ever had any J pouch patients do my C section (there are none here), but they knew my history. My surgeon wrote a note saying to give me a C section, rather than a vaginal delivery (High Risk was VERY adamant I have a V delivery, and I was NOT comfortable with that), and the new docs were fine with it. Had no issues whatsoever, we didn't even have a colorectal surgeon present, though I was in a teaching hospital where a CRS would have been easy to get hold of in an emergency.

I also had an ovarian cyst removed the year after my daughter's birth by a very good gynecologist, and while we had CRS on "standby" for him (his choice) they didn't do anything at all, and left before the surgery was even completed.

Female organs are forward of the GI stuff and pouch, so it's not like they have to "go through" the pouch to get to the uterus... so I didn't feel uncomfortable in my situations.
