Hello everyone! I had my J pouch surgery June 3, 1999. I was able to have everything done in one surgery and have had no problems (outside a bladder problem I have posted about previously). My sister also suffers from UC and just began her journey to her very own J pouch. Due to the length of time she had UC (18 years) and the medications (remicade infusions) she is going to have to do the surgery in three parts. It seems that is the norm as I read through all these posts. As I only had one surgery and it was 15 years ago (they cut me straight down the middle and opened me up vs. lapro methods today), I cannot be of much help to her right now as she is almost two weeks out from her first surgery. She says she feels like her insides are moving when she walks. She asked the surgeon about it today when her staples were removed and he dismissed it. I am sure it is normal as I did feel some of that myself but I thought I would see if any of you have experienced that feeling as well after the 1st surgery, pre pouch formation. Thanks so much!

Yup, normal. Maybe try walking a bit slower? It does go away over time -- or maybe I just got used to it.

Either way, it comes in handy when wanting to gross out Grade 7 boys. Just drink something and jog in place; the sloshing sound usually sends them right around the bend! (In my job, this is a vital skill set...)

Here's how it was explained to me:

Your mind has an image of how your body "is." A portion of your body was just removed and your mind is now updating the image. Until she's used to these new sensations as "normal," she's going to feel them.

After the second surgery, when the pouch is made, she'll probably have the same sensations.

I had the same thing and seems perfectly normal to me! Smiler
