It hasnt been around that long but the data on it for UC isnt that strong either- however there are a few different studies which show it safe and effective. My GI's have dismissed it but I have an rx from it from a GP to try as a "hail mary" to avoid surgery (nothing but pred keeps me in remission but even low dose pred doesnt put me in full remission)... So I'd live to hear from anyone who happened ti try it, or consider and dismissed it based on their own risk/benefit analysis. My fear is that assuming it fails, I just weaken my upper GI flora going into surgery. On another thread here someone even said antibiotics gave them toxic MC.

I was on Doxycycline, which is an antibiotic as well, when I had UC being treated for Lymes disease. I can tell you that my UC symptoms came to a halt for a while while I was on it. It was like a miracle. However, as soon as I stopped taking it (I was on it for about 2 months) bam, my UC flared all over again and worse than ever. I really don't think it's a reality to take antibiotics to treat UC. Eventually it's going catch up to you. Just my opinion.
