Hi,

I am getting quite frustrated as I had my takedown 5 months ago. I after a few months I wasn't getting better so my doctor put me on a 10 day course of cipro and flagyl. This helped a great deal but as soon as I went off, I got worse again. We then tried a 40 day trial where I slowly tapered off towards the end but now that I've been for a week I am getting much worse.

Any ideas what to do? Is it pouchitis for sure. I'm worried that its chronic.

Thanks a great deal
The experiences here suggest that your best shot at avoiding antibiotic-dependent pouchitis (or managing it without meds) are aggressive probiotic use (I take 4 VSL #3 DS packets/day), and a very low carb diet. That being said, long-term antibiotic use also seems to work fine for most folks, once they find out which one(s) don't cause any side-effects.
