I have posted previously that I had scheduled surgery to go to an end ileo. Unlike many who have gone back to the bag my reason was primarily due to incontinence, not chronic pouchitis, 18 months of tweaking didn't help much. I did adapt which was part of the problem. Scheduling my life around my bowels, my activity level dropped and everything needed to be planned often dreaded and sometimes avoided. I really hoped the J pouch would work for me but it was very problematic from its day of creation. I was a poor candidate from the beginning and the original surgery had huge problems due to getting the blood supply re-established.

I had the surgery on Monday. I did not want to have a big surgery with a big recovery so we ended up leaving the pouch in... for now. Still due to adhesions and the desire to not sacrifice any more intestine, it took nearly 3 hours. I feel great aside from fairly minor surgical pain (laparoscopic) my butt feels great and is no longer the center of my consciousness. Bowels woke up and I am going home this evening. Looking forward to a more active lifestyle. I really think the poor pouch function was draining my energy as well as my poop. I know some people have trouble with the abandoned pouch but thus far, and its only been a couple of days, nothing has come out of it other than a little gas the first day. There is no pressure, no pain, no mucous.
