its been a while since I have been here. My ponch has be working well for five and one half years. But last week I had the C-bomb dropped on me. Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The cancer Dr said that because of having a J-ponch, I could not have radiation, only chemo. I am very fit and otherwise very healthy, so they discussed the most aggressive rounds but was concerrned about not getting enough fluids since I don't have a colon. I think can handle it because I have strong family and friend support. I believe in the power of prayer and have a lot of love and prayers from all those people. So facing the battle of my life and looking for information from all sources I ask if someone from this group has faced this before and is willing to share what you know I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks, James

Wow, I am so sorry you are being dealt this blow. Like you, I would want every tool in the shed to fight this thing, even if it meant having a PICC line to assure adequate hydration. I cannot imagine it.

My dad had pancreatic cancer and it did not go well. He did not have radiation, just chemo, but it was very advanced by the time of diagnosis. He did not have a j-pouch or even IBD. I wish you all the very best of luck and pray that chemo is effective.

I was dx with stage 3 rectal cancer and FAP, I'm only 27. So I had to have chemo and radiation before first sx and then chemo after. I faced dehydration a lot due to having temp bag and no colon. Whenever I went in for chemo I would just ask for fluids as well and my chemo team was amazing and I always got hydrated, hopefully that can be an option for you Smiler sorry to hear about all of this and I know your asking people who have jpouches about chemo and dehydration, but wanted to share!

I am so sorry Bama,
Good wishes and best of luck...a Picc line is a saviour for a lot of us...I blessed mine during a nasty series of surgeries...they can keep you hydrated and as healthy as possible without having to poke you 10xs a day.
Keep us the morale...you will need it...and do not neglect the power of laughter...keep yourself surrounded by happy people and lots of funny movies...they do make a huge difference.
