Im writing for my daughter. She had total colectomy 7/15/13 with ielostomy, take down surgery 4/25/14 with ielostomy. In hospital 11 days due to ielus. 8/25/14 resection, been in hospital 15 days, NG tube since 8/30/14, on TPN 4 days. Severe tummy pain, no output from new pouch. 2 ab xrays showing inflammation. Supposed to have ct scan w/ dye. Help anyone experience similar issues? She's 19 losing faith.

I had what was likely an ileus during some of my procedures. I had an ng (and then g) tube for a few weeks and was on tpn for two months. I was in the hospital for over a month during this. I blame it on surgery trauma and stress. The bowels are weird things. What finally turned me around was switching to a doctor I trusted, being able to finally go home, and weirdly, watching Diners, Drive ins and Dives. I went so long without eating (2 months), that I was dying for something real to eat. That show, and Anthony Bourdain, kicked my cravings into high gear I also wasn't able to drink for that time, but I convinced my surgeon to allow me a little each day to keep the mental health up. Nothing like drinking a coffee bean blended drink and watching it flow out of my g tube into a bag 1 minute later. Really, your daughter just needs to believe that all will return to normal, which will relieve the stress, and her body will follow suit. It's not easy, but it feels very good when the dam breaks and the bowels rumble again.
