So it has been three weeks since my last ivig infusion. They did three back to back infusions inpatient over 3 days so they could monitor my reactions. Now I am scheduled for another three infusions tomorrow (Monday) , Tuesday, and Wednesday. They will be outpatient this time. Each outpatient stay will be 7 hours long. I will receive benadryl through an iv, Tylenol by mouth, and an infusions of standard saline then an infusion of the ivig.
After this next round of infusions, I will only have to get one infusion every 2 weeks.
My doctor and her team at Vandy had to get my ongoing treatment pre approved just like they had to with my initial treatment. I imagine each round of treatment will need to be pre approved.
I feel really good. I am actually absorbing water very well which had been very difficult for me at first. I feel energy. I no longer feel like I have nothing else to give to the rest of my day by 1:00 in the afternoon. I feel good energy until it's time to go to bed. What's strange is I experienced a complete cure of pain that I had always experienced with my j pouch bowel movements. I say strange because I really thought the extreme rectal pain I felt every time I had to use the bathroom was typical and normal. This was the kind of pain that stopped me in my tracks every time. The extreme pain was the way I knew how I needed to get the the bathroom and I needed to get there asap. And trying to hold it only resulted in more increased pain. I could hold it but it would bring me to my knees. It's so strange to feel no pain now. I started feeling a pressure with no pain and I didn't realize my j pouch was just full because for the first time, I wasn't in pain. I have had a great experience with ivig. I credit the care and experience of my doctors and Vanderbilt. They really took a lot of extra precautions to prevent and minimize any side effects.
I will continue to try to keep the forum updated.
