Hi all-

my name is Cody, I am new here and just had my reversal surgery on June2nd. I am currently experiencing bad cramping and distention to the point that I have to take pain meds just to make it bearable. My surgeon wanted me on solids right away, so I have been eating very small amounts of things like smoothies, avocado, mashed potatoes, yams and matzoh ball soup. I did have one night of vomiting but now am not nauseous. I also have barely lost any weight since surgery which is a bit concerning as I have barely consumed substantial calories since the surgery. My belly is very hard and bloated. I don't know what to do, any advice greatly appreciated.

It is probably a lot of gas; that is common after takedown. Get up and WALK as much as possible -- don't overdo it, of course, but the walking REALLY helps to get the gas moving. Have you evacuated yet?

Make sure you're drinking plenty as well. And, just a tip, a heating pad really helps with the cramping.

Hopefully it should pass soon!

If you have not had any output or passed gas in an 8 hour period you need to get yourself to the emergency room. You have the symptoms of a bowel obstruction. Take only clear fluids and see if that makes a difference.
I agree that walking will help get things moving. Warmth and massage might be beneficial too. Don't leave this too long however...you need to get checked by a physician.
