The above link is to an article in "Science Daily". It summarizes a study that concludes using probiotics while treating c.diff with antibiotics helps relieve the diarrhea accompanying c.diff.

I'm taking Flagyl for c.diff and took VSL#3DS and s.bouardii last night for the first time since on it and feel much better today. It could be Flagyl has finally kicked in, it could be a placebo effect or it just could be the probiotics are helping me feel better while being treated.

The study said the probiotics did not cure c.diff, they helped relive the symptoms - in my case pain and diarrhea.

For those of you that have wondered, like I have, if we should take probiotics while taking an antibiotic the answer appears to be yes - when treating c.diff. Yes when treating c.diff according to this study.....

I have no idea if this holds true for taking an antibiotic for treating anything else wrong with our j-pouches.

Probiotics won't cure c.diff, I just think they are making me feel better. I should have worded that better Rebecca. Flagyl is the pitts!

I was of the opinion that it was better to go off of probiotics while on antibiotics. I use VSL#3DS and s.boulardii all the time and now will continue them while on antibiotics. VSL#3 instructions say to take it 3-4 hours in-between the antibiotic.
