Yikes. Feeling terrible with trapped gas, bloating, distention, and a feeling of being backed up like I'm about to burst! It is so frustrating. I have recently acquired a new GI doc who seems knowledgeable and he ordered a Small Bowel Follow Through Study and a Pouch Scope which seem like the first steps that need to happen to find out what is going on? I am 62, my pouch is 3 years old, and I have struggled a little with my new pipes but nothing like this. So ..... the Small Bowel Study showed inflammation in the bowel but no sign of obstruction and the scope is scheduled for the end of May. I wish the scope could happen sooner but appointments are scheduled way out and this was the first time I could get in. I am in so much discomfort while waiting and I spend tiring sessions in the bathroom trying to expel some of the wind that is driving me crazy. I am also sticking to a mostly liquid diet to rest the bowel and eliminate foods that might be feeding on the nasty bacteria. It seems to help a little. Thank you to the folks who raised the question months ago when I had similar symptoms that I might have SIBO or pouchitis. I think you are sooo right! I have read and reread the many threads on SIBO and pouchitis distress, the various antibiotic treatments, and the dietary suggestions about low carbs and sugars and the FODMAP diet. All of this information is so helpful and your many personal posts have made me feel a lot less alone. So, thank you, thank you fellow pouchers for all of your wisdom and support. Does this still sound like SIBO, pouchitis, or both? Any advise or suggestions you might have would be appreciated. Oh yes, and I scheduled a consultation at Mayo in Rochester for the first week in June which I can keep or cancel depending on whether I feel satisfied with my new doc in Minneapolis. Can any of you think of other things I can do for gas/pain relief while managing on my own? I am discouraged.
Thank you, Savannah
