Hi!

Is anyone participating in this years Team Challenge with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation?

I am! I plan to run Jamestown, RI! It's been two years since my final Jpouch surgery and I'm ready to show the world how great I feel (not to mention get rid of all the steroid weight)

Any tips? We are starting to get into the nitty gritty of it, running 7 miles tomorrow. I've been battling the usual aches and pains of a non-runner forcing her body to be some kind of amazing athlete.

The best part about it is training with a team that almost entirely has Crohn's or colitis themselves. I like to think of it as group therapy. Funny though, I'm the only J poucher.

I did Team Challenge Vegas in 2011, just 5 months after my takedown. I wasn't really ready at that point physically and suffered some joint damage to my already messed up hips. But mentally, it was soooo what I needed. To be surrounded by people who just "get it." I loved all the people I met and CCFA is a wonderful and being transparent about how much of each donation goes directly to research funds.

I kept wet wipes in a baggie in the zippered pocket of my running pants for all my bathroom visits and bought new shoes with the help of trained running wear specialists that corrected my gait, which helped with knee pain. Other than that no really good tips as I'm not a runner (I was told to never run again by my physical therapist afterwards - my hips just suck) But I hope you enjoy yourself and have a fantastic time with your Team!! You'll do great!

I'm a Team Challenge alumnus as well! It is a wonderful organization and a cause that is so near and dear to our butt, I mean heart!

The coaches and mentors will give you all the advice, support, and direction that you'll need. You gonna be an endurance athlete in no time!

My one piece of advice: I think we need to drink way more than the average endurance runner/walker, and we need to drink electrolytes (all the sports ades) along with drinking water. Use Nunn or stuff like that!

I stopped doing TC in 2011. I was all set to do Kona for the second time. I'd done tons of fundraising and my hubby and I were gonna spend a week in HI to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. I got a total bowel obstruction (major surgery) 10 days before the event. And then there was surgery number 2 to clean out all the peritoneal infection...
No more 13.1 miles for Jilly!

But enough about all that. You have a riot! I made life-long friends in that group!
