Ok I'm using my j-pouch succesfully in 9 months now, and I'm very satisfied sofar.
My surgeon prescribed my a cycle of 1 week per months of ciprofloxacina, and 2 vsl3 per day.
Recently I didn't follow the vsl3 prescription as I was so well I suspended it and then I took it just 1 per day, but suddenly things worsened, and I began to have much more diarrhea (liquid stools), and the bm from 2-3 increased to 4-6.
I notice many times some drop of blood in the stools which I can't associate to pouchitis or cuffitis or emorrhoids;
now I'm planning to increase again the vsl3 intake, although I was quite sure it didn't worsened the situation.
To be honest I can't blame so much as I have no urgency (can do everything in my life) but I'm sad as I feel I'm worsening and don't know how things will go in the next weeks and months.
Did you experienced my symptoms? This could be pouchitis?
Obviously the worst symptoms for me is the blood, but I have to say that I usually notice it when I strain, as I want always the pouch to be very well emptied, but in the previous months I never saw blood.
Please what should I do to regain a pouch well functioning?
I noticed I suspended the carrots intake which together with bananas seemed to decrease my diarrhea and compact my feces.
I also am afraid I'm losing the blood and losing my iron levels as I'm feeling I'm paling when I watch myself at the mirror.
I just thought my pouch was so very well functioning I was sure I will never experience those fears but I was in error.

This could easily be caused by your antibiotic. It's probably causing a bacterial overgrowth in your guts. I'm sure your doc prescribed the probiotic in order to prevent this. May have gotten out of control and will take some time to calm down. Make sure you are getting PLENTY of probiotics. Maybe add some yogurt along with the VSL.
