my pouch has a sinus and a leak so they gave me back a temp ileo due to infection in spine. i can stay as is, try to do a pouch redo, or consider a kpouch. I am in Cleveland Clinics back yard so I have doctors available to me pretty close. I guess there are onlt 2 doctors there that do this procedure, Dietz and not sure of the other? Doesnt sound like many doctors are doing them anymore? is this a dying procedure? I need to know more i guess

Dr. Joel Bauer in NYC (Manhattan) is skilled in the kock pouch procedure and still doing them. That's not in your back yard but if you go for this you want the person who has done the most k pouches so it would be worth it to check him out.

Pouchomarx, it is my understanding that Cleveland Clinic is the best place to go for J pouch problems and you are fortunate to live nearby. As far as the K pouch and BCIR are concerned, there are relatively few surgeons doing it. I cannot see these procedures “fading away” since they provide folks an alternative to having the bag with its associated issues. I believe these procedures would be more widely utilized if more people and their doctors knew that they existed.

Marianne, the BCIR is essentially a K pouch with a “collar” around the valve to stabilize it and reduce the chance of leakage. Detailed information on this procedure is at: www.bcir.com. Currently, 2 surgeons in the USA perform BCIR’s and it is my understanding that more surgeons will be trained in it. The K pouch also has very good results and more surgeons do it.
