The back pain got really bad I took myself to the CLeveland CLinic ER. My small leak at the tip of the jpOuch apparently couldt not be controlled by the Shen procedure. I had a really bad infection in the bone of the spine and the sacral area that was causing the horrible lower back pains. My surgeon had to divert me to stop the cause. 12 hours later walking the floor and back pain is 100% gone. Plan is to go home tomorrow on IV antibiotics for several weeks to make sure the spine infection is gone and then get with surgeon to get the plan of attack on fixing that leak somehow and then get me hooked back up. Very sad and depressed I'm going through all this again. This time alone since I'm divorced this time around. I have 2 young daughters and they deserve a healthy father for once in their lives. God help me, please

Praying for you poucho. I am so sorry for what you are enduring. I really hope those guys at CC get this resolved for you and you have much better days ahead.
I am so glad that the pain is gone and that they are taking it all so seriously. I know how hard it is to go through these things alone but you are a very strong person and will come through it all with flying colours...Just praying that they fix the hole and that you are back to pain-free live.

Hi, Poucho .. sorry about the issues, but glad you are feeling better! You said Dr. Shen's procedure didn't work this time, and I am curious; does that infer that you may be in the same boat as I am? Possible revision surgery?
Best wishes.

Sorry to hear this news. It must be devastating, considering all the bother, time, and expense you have gone through to avoid this same outcome. The body sometimes just does not follow the rules!
I hope Dr. Shen can get this mess straightened out without too much more drama. You've had more than your share.

Hey guys. The sinus that Shen had been doing the needle/knife therapy on was not any part of this issue. The sinus was at the anastomosis and the leak is at tip top of jpouch. We have made great progress with the sinus and it was contained. The small leak they feel has been there a long time and did that damage over a long time. I did talk to my surgeons office and my diversion surgery was 3 hours long. Not only did he divert the ostomy but he cleaned out the area all around the pouch, took out as much scar tissue and adhesions from other surgeries, and most importantly he surgically re sutured the whole area where the leak was detected although it was so small he could not see it. Said lets give it 3-6 months to heal up and then we can test it and hook it back up.
That's great news that the surgeon cleaned up in there and sutured the pouch leak. Hopefully, this takes care of it. I knew that the sinus repair with the needle knife was a separate thing, but all along it was to avoid a major surical repair. I guess that the signifigance of the other leak was underestimated.
When I had a pelvic abscess, it pretty much flew under the radar until I had serious symptoms that required emergency intervention. Leaks are sneaky things. By the time the abcess was discovered, there was no leak anymore.

I am so sorry about your recent difficulties. Sounds painful!
I feel your pain. I am in a similar situation (pouch sinus, suspected small leak, and now diverted). The crazy thing is, they don't even know for sure there is a leak, as they can't see it. They just suspect it, since they found inflammation outside my pouch. This just goes to show how small leaks can really fly under the radar.
While the loop ileostomy is not at all ideal, hopefully it will allow things to calm down and heal up.
