Hi all,

Have been gone from some time as i have been blissfully enjoying my post surgery life. The surgeries, which were brutal, were over and i was doing everything. Life was amazing.

Forward to Sept 22, 2013. I woke with terrible pain in the my right side, opposite the pouch. Many test and hours later, i was found to have free air in my abdomen, or as the er Dr. stated, a perforated bowel. I was told by them moron er Dr. that i was going to lose my pouch. As it turns out, the surgeon who did the emergency surgery at Beaumont hospital found the leak right at the tip of my pouch and said he was able to fix it. I wish to G-d i could have made it to Cleveland, but i was serious trouble. Sigh....

Forward to 4 months later. The repair did not hold and my pouch is still leaking. It has since caused a fistula which has tunneled up to my stomach and discharges through my surgery wound which has not healed because of this. I am pretty much in constant pain and am scheduled to be reopened in Cleveland on April 4th, which cannot get her fast enough. This has been a living nightmare that refuses to end. I wish the Michigan hospital never touched me, but i had no choice.

This sucks.......

It is unknown what caused the perforation. Speculation is a twist or hernia caused the end of the pouch to "pop".

Has anyone ever heard of this or experienced it? My post pouch life was magnificent and i would do anything to have it back. I am so frustrated right now i do not know where to turn. I am praying i will not lose my pouch, but i am no longer confident.

Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but what Michigan Hospital did you go to. U of M is the hospital I go to and I just love my GI doctor and my surgeon. That saved my life. I sure hope you don't mind me asking. My surgeon was truly amazing. She did my take down in just 7 weeks. Because I was so dehydrated with the ileo/bag. I am so sorry you are going through this.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I hope you don't mind me asking. I would love to share who I see. Especially my surgeon. She did my take down in 7 weeks and it was completely healed. I was so sick with my ileo/bag.

All of my initial surgeries were done at Cleveland Clinic by Dr. David Dietz, who is magnificent.

The emergency surgery was completed by Dr. Wassvary out of Beaumont Royal Oak. While he is a very nice person and did the best he could considering, i think what i am dealing with is out of their league.

Cleveland sees me on April 4th to start over.

Good Luck!!! I am so sorry you have to go through this. I am from Jackson area and had two GI doctors do scopes and tell me I was fine. Yah!! Within three months I was able to see the top GI doctor at U of M and found out about 3 months later after another scope done there that I had pre cancer cells through out my whole colon and UC. Doctors in Jackson didn't have a clue what was wrong and only said I am sure you have IBS. U of M saved my life and so do I. My GI doctor said if I would not have continued to push for what is really wrong then I would have been dead in 4 years. My surgeon is just as awesome. She is amazing. I don't love my new life and I am so thankful for everyone one this site. My GI doctor I don't think loves the jpouch and really wanted me to go with the bag but that is all he has said about that and does continue to help me proceed to find better days. Good Luck and keep us posted.
