Hi!

I've felt great over the last month or so on Augmentin (lots of diarrhea, though!) Sadly, back to weakness, very sore butt pain and issues as of a few days ago. I have an initial appointment with Dr. Remzi with an MRI and then Barium Enema the first day, and the second day with Dr. Remzi and Dr. Shen for a pouch procedure. We'll see how it goes!

However, question, the full day of not eating solids and the prep seem to be a bit of overkill for me since I don't have a colon. Is there a middle ground for those of us with pouches? So far my instructions are nothing but clear liquids the day before and then at 5:00 12 oz of Magnesium Citrate.

Of course, I want to be a shiny clean as possible and will do whatever necessary! Thanks.

I never drink anything to prep for a scope. I only take 2 fleet enemas the morning of when being scoped by my GI and no prep at all with surgeon other than liquids the night before as you indicated. My surgeon in NY frowns upon the stuff you drink as he feels it is very irritating to the pouch, but every GI and surgeon have their own protocol and these guys do a lot of pouch scopes.

I had one with Remzi over a year ago and I did not have to drink anything (just a fleet enema the morning of). Maybe they changed their procedures over the last year or due to your ongoing issues want to make sure you are as clear as possible in the pouch. Good Luck!

When I saw Dr. Shen a few months back he decided to do a scope right then, so I hadn't been fasting or anything. No problem, they handed me an enema, showed me the restroom, and 5 minutes later they were trying to start an IV for sedation. Even though it took an hour to get the IV situated, his notes still said that the prep was adequate.
