Hello,
I am so grateful this forum is available. Thank you everyone! My history is as follows: complete colectomy with pouch & ileostomy construction 2000,
pouch & ileostomy reconstruction 2001, surgically created obstruction re-do of ileostomy, 2001,
take down 2001.
Diagnosis of COPD 2006.
exacerbation of COPD 2013
Levaquin for 2 days, 2013 (stopped bc of joint inflammation
Augmentin, 10 days, Dec. 2013, no change
Tetracycline, 10 days, some improvement

I noticed that while on these antibiotics, my gut was more calm and my stools more formed almost to the point of constipation. Now I have a hemorrhoid and butt burn that extends from my anus all the way up the butt crack. I am wondering if this is antibiotic induced, like a fungus, or due to bacterial imbalance from the 3 rounds of antibiotics. Has anyone experienced an initial improvement in function from being on antibiotics for something other than pouchitis? And this skin irritation from around the butt and all the way up? What is that? What shall I do to remedy? I'm doing sits baths with plain water, airing out the area, but am reluctant to use calmoseptine.

Thanks very much!
AJJ

Irritation that goes all the way up the butt crack is likely a fungus infection. Try some over the counter antifungal creams for a few weeks to see if that helps. Be sure to dry well after bathing, even use a hair dryer if necessary.

If the OTC creams don't help, see your doctor for a prescription strength one.

Oral probiotics may help get things back on track too.
