I can't wait for this day to be over! Tomorrow a.m. at 6:30 I'm having a double header....upper and lower endoscopy. So....today is a clear liquids only day. Welch's makes a wonderful white grape juice with mango and papaya juice added. It is really yummy! My head hurts and all I can think of is food! I'm dreaming about what I will eat when it is all over!

so sorry for you. I just had an upper. And now I have a small bowel series scheduled day after christmas. But I'm allowed to eat until 10pm for that. so I am stuffing myself on christmas dinner!

Well the rigorous diet I put myself on for two days paid off. By the time I took the laxative (three Ducolax) I no longer needed it! Woke up to the alarm at 3:30 this a.m. and by 4:30 had taken the prescribed saline (Fleet) enema. Funniest thing, the liquid in the bottle went in very easily (first time) but I have no idea where it went! Nothing leaked. The liquid was gone! Even a trip to the toilet produced nothing! Oh, well!
Left the house at 5:15 a.m. and arrived at the endoscopy center at 6:00....the time of my appointment. Monday morning after a two day weekend seemed to have left the staff a bit "discombobulated". Seemed to have forgotten where everything was!
Oh, the anesthesiologist arrived and I gulped. He looked young enough to be my grandson! And reminded my of my son when he was younger and stayed up too late during high school so that when he left for school he looked like he had just rolled out of bed. My fears were unfounded. I'm here to tell about it!
Well, the upper endoscopy was first and I did need anesthesia for that procedure. Propofol was mentioned and you know what went through my mind! Actually, it was Propofol I had when I had my hysterectomy about a year ago. Since I'm here to tell about it, it must have been fine. Actually, what I really like about it is that when I woke up I felt alert and totally fine....not groggy. Guess that is why "other people" like(d) it, as well!
Chose not to have sedation during the lower endoscopy. No need. It's fast and easy. Besides I like watching it on the monitor. Get to see my J-pouch in real time.
So, now I'm home....feeling like I have a lump in my throat (biopsies). Italian ice feels great. Hot coffee feels great! Hungry for real food but my throat says, "Not yet."
I'm looking forward to my first real meal!

3:30 AM is a God-awful time to wake up, and knowing what you have in store for the day is NOT a motivator.

I work in a paediatric hospital and we use Propofol all the time. It is our anaesthetic of choice for most things. It is fondly known as
"Milk of Amnesia"

Milk of Amnesia! What a hoot! Gloria, I bet you have had endoscopies. Just another name for "scopes". Upper endoscopies check everything from the mouth down and into the stomach. (Maybe a bit further than the stomach....I don't know. Those of us with J-pouches have a lower endoscopy from the anus up through the pouch itself. I don't think the scope goes into the small intestine but I really don't know.
