I'm so thankful that I found this forum, it's already helped to answer many questions. I was diagnosed with UC at age 19, in 1989. Aside for a handful of nasty flares, my Colitis has been manageable, mainly with Asacol the last few years, and the occasional round of Rowasa. My last exam found a large polyp that will require surgery. Of course, the docs are recommending removing EVERYTHING below the small intestine and ending up with the J-pouch.
The question is, is it worth it? I understand removing the threat of colon cancer, but my quality of life is pretty good now, and has been for a while. Will I be worse off, dealing with the colostomy bag, then J-pouch complications? I know I may have to do it all eventually.. Thanks for your thoughts..
