Hi. I have a j-pouch. I am having a scope done tomorrow, and I'm not sure I know how to prepare. I am trying to contact my doctor to find out, but I have been on hold for 10 minutes now and I don't know if that will ever end.

The way I remember it from past scopes, I prepared just by not eating anything the day before after noon, but I'm not sure that is correct. Can anybody else tell me how to prepare? Thanks

I'm having "a double header" later this month. My gastroenterologist will do the upper endoscopy and my colorectal surgeon will do the scope of my J-pouch. My surgeon told me to have clear liquids only the day before the procedures and a fleet enema the morning of the procedure. My gastroenterologist told me to do the same thing except he wants me to take 2 Ducolax between 2 and 4 p.m. the day before the procedures along with a clear liquid diet only the day before the procedures. He also wants me to have a fleet enema the morning of the procedures. I think the Ducolax is not necessary if I have clear liquids only the day before the procedures. I'll take one and see if I need the second.

it does vary quite a bit by doctor. My GI has me do clear liquids 24 hours before, nothing after midnight the day of the scope, and I have to take a bottle of magnesium citrate. needless to say every time I have a scope I feel like I am going to fall over from dehydration and it takes the nurses forever to hit my veins to start an IV, and normally I have monster veins…..

Prep definitely differs from doc to doc. I have actually had scopes done where no prep was required. I just had a scope done last month and again, no oprep was required. I actually requested a prep because I worried that results wouldn't be reliable if I wasn't "cleaned out" completely and I'd have to have scope done again. Not that scopes are a big deal but it's a day off from work & I have to arranged a ride. After I requested a prep, doc said to just do 1 enema before bed & 1 in the morning, before I left home to have scope done.
