Hi Everyone,
My second round of IVF was successful, so far... The beta numbers were promising. I had been feeling pretty good, pouch was well behaved until this past Friday night. I have 2 small fistulas that go from the pouch to the outer labia, closest to the rectum. They have been "dormant" for a long time, however, I had a brutally long day on Friday and they became very swollen and painful in the middle of the night. I took 1 canasa suppository as they have helped in the past, and I was told it was safe by my GI doctor. Can hormones cause increased inflammation? I am taking progesterone suppositories as well, (which are gross).. I am only 5 weeks along. What antibiotics are safe, if it comes to that? Any thought/experience greatly appreciated. I am very nervous.
Thanks

Yes, hormones may be contributing to your problems. Pregnancy hormones cause increased blood flow and engorgement of sexual anatomy. There often is even a purplish hue down there from this. So, yeah, that could cause more swelling. You can even get varicose veins there. But, it should not mean more inflammation. It would probably be a good idea to make sure there are no abscesses forming.

Thank you Jan and na for the responses. I saw the GI NP today. She was very helpful. She ordered lots of bloodwork, including folate, vitamin d and b12. My hcg has also continued to rise well. My White blood cell count is elevated. Between the NP and OB, they have started me on augmentin 875/175. For those who have taken augmentin what is considered a low dose? I'm so nervous about this... Any thoughts and experiences welcome.
Thanks so much!

I found out in June that I was pregnant during my prep work for "exploratory" surgery. I still had the surgery just had to be awake for it. They thought it was the gland like you, but realized it was a fistula. My surgeon put in a seton for the duration of the pregnancy to keep me from having to be on the antibiotics. I has swelling and bad inflammation in the fistula until I started eating according to the Paleo diet. The fistula can't heal closed because of the seton, but its not bleeding and swollen and sore anymore. I almost wouldn't know it was there. I will have a temporary ileo and the. Another take down sometime after the baby is born in order to repair the fista fully. I have 4 weeks until baby arrives Smiler
